Juneteenth: Message from the President

Juneteenth: Message from the President

Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, the day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the freedom, resilience, and achievements of African Americans.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom. Juneteenth serves as a powerful reminder that freedom and justice must be actively protected and advanced for all people.

As President of the NAACP Vancouver Branch 1139-B, I am proud to recognize the work of our Branch and its members, who continue to stand in the long tradition of those who fought for freedom, civil rights, and equal opportunity. For generations, the NAACP has worked to advance justice and equality, and our Vancouver Branch remains committed to that mission through advocacy, education, voter engagement, youth empowerment, and community partnership.

Juneteenth is not only a celebration of freedom, but also a call to action. While we honor the sacrifices and achievements of those who came before us, we must continue the work of breaking down barriers, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that every person is treated with dignity and respect.

I want to thank the members, volunteers, community partners, faith leaders, and supporters of the Vancouver Branch for their dedication and service. Together, we are building a stronger and more equitable community for future generations.

On this Juneteenth, let us honor the past, celebrate the progress we have made, and renew our commitment to creating a future where justice, equality, and freedom are realities for all.

Happy Juneteenth.

Respectfully,
Mark Frazier
President
