What is the Youth & Education Committee?

Promoting Equity, Access, and Excellence in Education

The NAACP Vancouver Branch Youth & Education Committee is committed to ensuring that every child—regardless of race, background, or circumstance—has access to a high-quality education and the opportunity to thrive. Education is not only a civil right, but also the foundation for social and economic mobility, and we believe equity in education is essential to building a just and inclusive community.

Educational inequities don’t just affect classrooms—they shape futures. By confronting bias, expanding opportunity, and ensuring accountability, the Youth & Education Committee helps build stronger schools and stronger communities. Our work honors the NAACP’s legacy of fighting for civil rights while preparing the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers.

Our Mission

The Education Committee works to eliminate barriers to academic success by addressing inequities and advocating for policies that ensure equal educational opportunities for Black students and all students of color. We strive to strengthen families, empower students, and partner with schools and community leaders to build a culture of achievement, fairness, and accountability.

Our committee is committed to improving student outcomes by supporting initiatives that encourage strong attendance, reduce dropout rates, and promote fair teacher certification practices. We also recognize that family and community engagement is essential, and we encourage parents and community members to play an active role in improving student achievement.
